For India, this is a moment of pride as 12-year-old Pratyusha Kole from Jamalpur in East Bardhaman returned home with a gold medal after beating competitors from 12 countries that participated in an international yoga competition organized in Nepal. The final round was held on October 18, during which Pratyusha won first prize and garnered accolades, not only in her district but throughout the country.

Young talent shines on the world stage

She competed in the category “Traditional Yoga” for 10–12 years and came first by performing flawlessly. That was not all; she was the runner-up in the “Champions of the Champions” round, in which winners of all categories competed with each other, including older participants.

The contest had international participation from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, Japan, Singapore, the USA, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, among others.

From village fields to the global podium

Pratyusha represents Kora village in Jamalpur, but she now stays in Chandannagar for training and studies at Usangini Balika Vidyalaya in Class 6. While her yoga started in the local school grounds in her village, now she trains at Swastik Ashtanga Academy in Barrackpore, perfecting her skills under professional guidance.

Her father, Sumit Kole, has a job in Mumbai, but she credits her mother, Piyali Kole, as her greatest supporter, accompanying her through every training session and always encouraging her.

The village, her teachers, and friends are all awaiting the return of Pratyusha this Sunday to give a hero's welcome to their young champion. The small town has become proud, and her remarkable achievement symbolizes perseverance, discipline, and dedication.
