The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Kolkata and South 24 Parganas in the afternoon of October 10. These districts will be affected by intense thunderstorms & lightning accompanied by intense rain and gusty wind with speeds reaching 30-40 km per hour.

The IMD warning reads, "Intense Thunderstorm & lightning accompanied with intense rain and gusty wind with speed 30-40 kmph. very likely to continue over some parts of South 24 Parganas, Kolkata districts during next 2- 3 hours from 14:55, 10-10-2025"

What is an Orange Alert?

An Orange alert typically means 'Be Prepared to Take Action', which indicates moderate danger as well as an advisory for people to take shelter as soon as possible, as any form of life-threatening situation may occur.
