A tragic incident came to light on Wednesday, October 29, morning when a Jadavpur University engineering student allegedly took his own life by jumping from a moving train. The incident took place when the train was crossing Kansai Halt. The Government Railway Police (GRP) later recovered the body.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Soham Patra, a third-year student of Printing Engineering at Jadavpur University. His father, Deepak Kumar Patra, and mother, Mallika Patra, are residents of the Bankura police station area in Bankura district.

On Tuesday night, Soham had boarded the Howrah-Adra Rani Shiromoni Passenger train with his mother to return home to Bankura. As per reports from Kharagpur GRP, Soham suddenly jumped off the train from a bridge between Kansai Halt and Medinipur station, plunging into the river below.
Authorities and locals searched through the night in and around the river and nearby railway areas but were unable to locate him. On Wednesday morning, Soham’s body was found floating in the river, after which the police were informed. Officers from the Kharagpur local police station recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Initial investigations have started, and it has come up that Soham may have been suffering from mental distress, which led him to take this extreme step. The suddenness of the act has left family members and locals in deep shock, as Soham was reportedly returning home with his mother when the tragedy occurred. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
