A stampede-like incident occurred at Barddhaman station even on a holiday. On Sunday, passengers rushed to catch trains at Barddhaman station, leading to chaos. A stampede-like incident then occurred while passengers were going up and down a staircase between platforms four and five. Eight people were injured in the accident. Passengers present on the platform are still shaken by the horrific experience. In the midst of this, Eastern Railway's Howrah DRM (Divisional Railway Manager) Vishal Kapoor spoke about the inccident on Sunday night.

After the accident, Vishal Kapoor went to Barddhaman Medical College and Hospital to meet the injured. He then came to Barddhaman station and faced journalists, saying, "Preliminarily, we have learned that on Sunday at 5:30 PM, a woman fell while going up and down the staircase between platforms four and five. Several people were then going up to save her. The accident occurred at that time. Eight people were injured in the accident. They were immediately taken to Barddhaman Medical College."

He then said, "Since this incident occurred within our railway station premises, I went to the hospital beforehand and spoke with the injured. Eight people are currently undergoing treatment there. Among them, three are seriously injured. Five of the injured are women. We are bearing all their medical expenses there. Some who want to receive treatment at one of our hospitals in Howrah will be transferred there."

Regarding the accident, he said, "We will examine why this type of incident occurred, whether there was a delayed announcement at the station, and all such matters. But before all this, the most important thing for us now is to ensure that those who are injured receive proper medical treatment."

It may be noted that a shopkeeper at the station reported that the Howrah-Barddhaman down local train stops at platform four. The same train is then announced as the Barddhaman-Howrah main line local for the return journey. The train was scheduled to depart from platform four at 5:25 PM. There was a rush to go up and down platforms four and five using only one staircase. Additionally, there was pressure from passengers of the Rampurhat local on platform six and the Asansol local train on platform seven.

As a result, there was a rush on the overbridge staircase. Suddenly, several passengers fell on the staircase. They were then seriously injured. At that time, many passengers, along with RPF personnel and railway staff on duty on the platform, came forward to help. However, many believe that a major accident was avoided at Barddhaman station that day.
