The father of the tortured medical student from Durgapur does not want to keep his daughter in Bengal. He said he wants to take his daughter to Odisha. This decision is made keeping security in mind, he claimed.

In an interview given to news agency ANI, he said, "She is unable to walk and is on bed rest. The Chief Minister, DG, SP, and Collector are all helping us a lot and regularly enquiring about her health... I have requested the Chief Minister to let us take my daughter away from here to Odisha, to a safer place because here, her safety is at risk... We have requested her to let us take her away”.

The tortured young woman is a student of a private medical college in Durgapur. On Friday night, she had gone out of the college with her friend. At that time, she was allegedly forcibly taken into the forest and gang-raped. Three people have been arrested so far in this incident. Besides, the police are also examining the role of her classmate.

Before leaving for North Bengal on Sunday, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said about the Durgapur incident, 'Private medical colleges also have a responsibility regarding the safety of students. The police cannot go and sit in every house. What happened is undoubtedly condemnable. But someone went out at 12:30. She can go there too, it's her right. But the hostel has a system.'

She further said, "I have told the police to take strict action. No criminal should get away.”

At the same time, Mamata Banerjee raised questions about what steps are taken when women are tortured in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha. She also said that Bengal follows a zero-tolerance policy in case of crimes and criminals.
