She never married in order to raise her brothers. Yet, in the voter list issued by the Election Commission, she has been listed as married! Not only that, a husband's name has been attached to her EPIC card. Seeing this, Swapna Sarkar, a resident of Neora Dighi area in Ward No. 19 of Basirhat Municipality, is shocked.
She claims that she voted in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. But her name is not in the revised voter list for 2002 published by the Election Commission. Instead, her voter card's EPIC number has changed hands and gone to someone else. This incident has created a sensation in the area. The administration is also in a predicament. It is suspected that some racket may be behind this.

Swapna Sarkar, a resident of the Neora area in Basirhat, is now 55 years old. Apart from her, there are two brothers in the house. The local BLO (Booth Level Officer) came to the house and distributed the enumeration forms for the two brothers. But Swapna Sarkar did not receive an enumeration form. When she went to inquire about this from the BLO, she learned that her voter ID had been transferred to the Haringhata area. She was stunned to hear this. Realising that something had gone wrong as the BLO could not give any proper explanation, she informed Sardar Ilias Ali, the BLA of Ward No. 19 and former councillor of the area. He has assured that he will discuss the matter with the sub-divisional magistrate.
According to Swapna, "Although the BLO gave forms for my two brothers at home, he didn't give me mine. He informed that he doesn't have my form. When I showed him my voter card, he inquired and informed that this card number has been moved to Part No. 32 of Haringhata in Nadia. But I have never been to that place. To raise my brothers, I didn't even marry. I can't understand how my name has been transferred to Haringhata." Swapna Sarkar's voter card has her father's name written as Krishna Sarkar. But in Haringhata's voter list, instead of the father's name, Ashu Sarkar's name appears as husband. Ashu is Swapna's younger brother.

Local Trinamool leader Ilias Ali says, "Swapna Sarkar's case is mysterious. I suspect there may be some mystery behind this. Swapna Sarkar is a voter of Ward No. 19. Ashu Sarkar is being shown as the husband of that unmarried woman. He is the woman's brother. I have inquired in Haringhata and learned that Ashu Sarkar's house is in the Haringhata area. Also, Swapna Sarkar is Ashu Sarkar's second wife. Although there is no connection between Swapna Sarkar of Basirhat and Swapna Sarkar of Haringhata. How the EPIC number got transferred is a mystery. I feel there's something fishy. I will inform the sub-divisional magistrate about this matter."
