Police arrest husband in wife’s murder case, four months after crime

Sukanta Nath, on the run for four months after murdering his wife Priyanka Nath Sarkar, was arrested in Noida, along with their missing child being rescued.

In the Panihati housewife murder case, Ghola police officers arrested the fugitive husband after four months from Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The arrested person's name is Sukanta Nath. Since the incident, their child had also been missing. Along with arresting Sukanta on Wednesday, police also rescued the child. Investigators brought Sukanta to Ghola police station on Thursday on transit remand. The child has been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.

Police investigation revealed that accused Sukanta was hiding at a woman's house in Noida. Police began surveillance outside that house in plain clothes. Arrested Sukanta has reportedly confessed to murdering his wife to the police. Through interrogation, investigators learned that his wife Priyanka Nath Sarkar (27) was involved in an extramarital affair with the father of their son's friend. Sukanta had also requested his wife to come out of that relationship. But when his wife did not keep her word, Sukanta strangled Priyanka and then cut the veins of both hands to ensure death.

Sukanta and Priyanka became friends 9 years ago and later got married. On the night of July 5, the body of housewife Priyanka Nath Sarkar was recovered from a house in Azad Hind Nagar area of ward number 27 of Panihati municipality with veins of both hands cut. Since the incident, the housewife's husband Sukanta Nath and their child had been missing. Police investigation revealed that the accused first went to Allahabad with the boy.

From there he went to Punjab and then to a woman's house in Noida. Later Sukanta started living by renting a house. He worked at a hotel there. He had also employed a woman to take care of the boy. Finally, Ghola police station officers caught him from that hideout.
