The Jalpaiguri Shiksha Bachao Committee called for a strike in the Jalpaiguri Sadar block in protest against the incident of punishing the headmistress of Sunitibala Sadar Girls High School in Jalpaiguri by making her do sit-ups. The committee announced that all schools and colleges in the Sadar block will remain closed on Friday.

On this day, the district Youth Congress submitted a memorandum to the District High School Inspector demanding an investigation into the incident. Jalpaiguri Shiksha Bachao Committee convener Kaushik Goswami said, "The school's headmistress had lodged a complaint with the District High School Inspector along with evidence of the incident. But even after that, no action has been taken. In protest of that incident, schools and colleges have been called to remain closed on Friday."

District High School Inspector Sujit Sarkar said, "A team has already been formed to investigate the incident. The investigation work has begun."
