A BJP councillor from Siliguri reportedly went to perform 'dandi' during Chhath Puja with eight bouncers! The video went viral on social media at lightning speed (though Ei Samay Online has not verified the authenticity of this video). And around this, nothing is being spared – from political jibes to public ridicule. As the controversy began to brew, Anita Mahato, councillor of Ward No. 5 of Siliguri Municipality, broke her silence. In her defence, she said these bouncers were not hers. They were arranged by the Chhath Puja Committee.

According to Anita Mahato, councillor of Ward No. 5 of Siliguri, "I did not call any bouncers. The Chhath Ghat committee had kept bouncers. When I was going towards the ghat, the committee members sent the bouncers. The committee also sent the cameramen. Police administration personnel were also present there. There is no connection between my cutting through the crowd to reach the ghat and keeping bouncers."

However, according to Ranjan Sarkar, Deputy Mayor of Siliguri city, "I have heard that she is apparently a YouTuber. We don't understand all this. But she might be doing all this to increase views. I have heard that income comes from increased views. I don't know why she kept bouncers on an empty road."

Though the councillor refuses to accept this logic. She claims that she remains active on social media. She presents all the work she does before everyone. She also presents her opinions on Facebook. She opened a YouTube channel to reach people even more.
