3rd September, Wednesday: JU alumnus Hindol Majumdar was arrested by the Kolkata Police on 13th August, following a lookout circular in his name, but the Alipore Court granted his bail on August 18. Now his attorney asked the police to return his seized items. He was identified as the main conspirator behind the attack on Bratya Basu on the JU campus. Majumdar’s attorney, Shibasish Pattanayak, also asked the investigating officer to explain what measures have been taken till now to revoke the lookout circular against him.
Majumdar, who lives in Spain to pursue his Phd, was arrested at the Delhi airport on August 13 based on the lookout notice. If the lookout circular is not revoked, he cannot return to Spain, where he has been pursuing higher studies, his lawyer said. The court asked the police to submit a report by September 9 on the petitions filed by Majumdar’s attorney. The court will hear the case again on the same day.
Pattanayak told The Telegraph Metro: “We requested the court that the investigating officer be instructed to explain what exact steps have been taken by the police to have the circular revoked."
On Tuesday, Pattanayak also asked the court to allow Hindol to buy a new SIM card with his old number. “His bank details are connected to the number. So, we submitted a separate petition so he could be allowed to buy a new SIM.” Pattanayak said.
