Is joining the Trinamool Congress now just a matter of time for Sovan Chatterjee?

During the festive season, Kolkata’s former mayor, Sovan Chatterjee, has once again become a topic of discussion in West Bengal’s political circles. On Friday, Sovan Chatterjee was appointed as the chairman of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA).

According to sources, Sovan had a long meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in North Bengal on Thursday. Soon after that meeting, the announcement of his new appointment sparked widespread speculation.

Until now, the chairman of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority was Alapan Bandyopadhyay, the Chief Minister’s Chief Advisor. Sovan Chatterjee has now been brought in to replace him. Notably, Sovan Chatterjee had long served as the Mayor of Kolkata.

Experts believe his experience in delivering civic services during that period has led to his new responsibility in New Town.

It is also worth mentioning that Sovan Chatterjee recently visited North Bengal with Baisakhi Banerjee. At that time, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was in North Bengal as well, visiting flood-affected areas and overseeing relief operations.

Sources say that, amidst her official work, Mamata held a lengthy meeting with Sovan on Thursday. Upon returning to Kolkata, Sovan received his new government post.
