The Trinamool Congress on Friday morning shared some information on its official X handle in this regard. It was alleged that the names of many people were deleted from the voters' list in Natabari, Mathabhanga, Ashoknagar and Basirhat. The ruling party in the state had alleged that the SIR process has not yet been fully initiated and already the names are being deliberately deleted. The reply was given on X handle of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state.
The Commission said that the District Magistrates or District Election Officers are responsible for the preparation of electoral rolls. They sent the list to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. Problems can arise from there. According to the 1960 Act, only the District Election Officer and his office prepare the electoral rolls for the elections. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the State has nothing to do with this.
However, according to the Election Commission, efforts will be made to resolve the issue soon. The commission said the new website, which was created on Friday, will be updated gradually. It is to be noted that on Friday, the address of the website of the CEO of West Bengal was announced. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal.
