The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched its groundwork for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, set to run from November 4 to December 4.

The party will open around 6,200 help desks across the state to assist voters with corrections and form submissions.

What is the Bengal SIR help desk's timing?

During a virtual meeting attended by nearly 15,000 party members, including MPs, MLAs, block presidents, and panchayat heads, TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee stressed that the names of no valid voter were to be erased from the rolls.

The help desks will be operational daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Banerjee has also instructed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to work closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the revision, describing their role as “shadow companions.” “BLOs should not be left unattended even for a minute,” Banerjee reportedly warned.

Additionally, each help desk will submit daily reports to Banerjee’s office on Camac Street. The TMC has also opened digital channels for citizens to reach out; complaints can be filed through the 'Didir Doot' app or via the party’s helpline number: 8142681426.

Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed that the help desks were a tool to “intimidate BLOs” under the guise of voter assistance.

Meanwhile, during the first phase of the SIR exercise, its official website crashed, leaving voters unable to access the 2002 voter list. The Election Commission later launched a new portal, https://ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in, to resolve the issue and restore services.
