The ruling party of the West Bengal government, Trinamool Congress, is initiating changes in its party structure. With the leadership direction from Mamata Banerjee and her deputy, Abhishek Banerjee, the party is aiming to curb the internal functionalism and wants to end the internal fights.

Earlier this month, the party set up a 9-member core committee for Darjeeling(Plains). The core committee is a body that contains prominent district leaders. Instead of making a hierarchy with the district president post, the party is trying to bring the leaders with their opinions under one roof. The Darjeeling(plains) district core committee includes leaders such as Goutam Deb, mayor of Siliguri and former state minister, Ranjan Sarkar, deputy mayor, and Papiya Ghosh, former district Trinamool president.

However, this is not the first time that the TMC has abolished the district president post; earlier, they set up a core committee in Birbhum and North Kolkata.

The TMC established a core committee to handle organizational duties in the district following the arrest of Anubrata Mondal, the party's commander and president of the Birbhum district, by the CBI in 2022 on suspicion of cattle smuggling. However, Mondal remained in his position as district president. However, Mondal was not removed from his position as district president. Earlier this year, after being added to the core committee, he was promoted to the position of convenor. Mondal's opponent, Kajal Sheikh, was also on the committee. In a meeting convened by the TMC supremo, Mamata Banerjee ordered Anubarata Mondal to work closely with Kajal Seikh and other leaders of the committee, including TMC MP Satabdi Roy and party legislator Asish Ghosh, who heads the committee.

A similar setup had also been made for the North Kolkata organizational district of the TMC. Sudip Banerjee was removed from his position as district president, and a core committee consisting of MPs and MLAs was established in its place. Banerjee was appointed as the district's chairman.

With less than one year for the 2026 assembly election, the TMC party is working hard to strengthen its organization. Recently, the leaked voice call of Anubrata Mondal sparked speculations about internal conflicts. It is very clear that the supremo of the party is not happy with these recent works; these changes are a reflection of the Party’s thinking about their organization. TMC is looking to abolish every dispute and wants to be ready to wear the seat belt for the roller coaster event, the assembly elections 2026.
