According to Canadian police sources, Darshan Singh Shashi was shot dead in front of his own house last Monday in Abbotsford city, British Columbia. A truck was parked in front of Darshan's house on Town Line Road. Around 9:30 AM local time on Monday in British Columbia, Darshan was standing near that truck in the Ridgeview Drive area. Several unidentified miscreants suddenly targeted him and fired several rounds of bullets. After a preliminary investigation, police learned that the attackers had been waiting in front of Darshan's house for about two hours.

However, a Canadian police source reports that although Lawrence Bishnoi's gang has claimed responsibility for the murder, no evidence of extortion attempts has been found yet. But given the recent increase in anti-India sentiment and extortion incidents in Canada, there could be extortion attempts behind Darshan's murder.
Multiple organisations of Punjabis in British Columbia have stated that Darshan Singh was not just a businessman. He was also a bearer and carrier of Punjabi culture in Canada. He also donated to multiple philanthropic projects for Punjabis.

The Punjabi community in Canada and businessmen in Punjab have strongly condemned the murder of Darshan Singh Shashi. Multiple Sikh community organisations have demanded a proper investigation of the murder from the Indian embassy and the Canadian administration. The businessman's relatives have appealed to the Indian embassy to arrange for his body to be sent for the last rites in Rajgarh village near Dorahar in Ludhiana.
