Carl Morgan, a dedicated father and chef was shot dead in a bizarre carjacking outside a New Orleans daycare as he waited to pick up his young son.
Who is Carl Morgan?
Carl Morgan was a sous chef at Brennan's, one of New Orleans' favorite restaurants and more than that, he was a dedicated father, a culinary genius, and a dear member of his community. Morgan, a man famous for his innovative culinary skills, was most renowned for his fried chicken sandwiches, which had become a crowning glory for patrons and a mainstay of Brennan's functions.
A life dedicated to food and family
New Orleans-born and bred, Morgan lived for food and family. "He was such a good human," said Christian Pendleton, the general manager at Brennan's. "He was a dad waiting to pick up his son at daycare. None of this is ever okay,” he added further.
Outside of the kitchen, Morgan's proudest possession was his family. He left behind his girlfriend, Lisa Marie Lienberger, and their 2-year-old child. " We love him very much, and I will do my best to make sure he’s remembered in everything we do. I wish he was here," Lienberger said. His friends and neighbors remembered him as a thoughtful, involved father who cherished every moment with his young boy, whether cooking with him or experiencing basic everyday pleasures.
Tragedy strikes while picking up his son
Morgan's life was senselessly ended in a brutal carjacking picking up his son from daycare, an event that stunned the community. " I just saw a guy walking right there - he just started unloading his gun " said eyewitness Luke Gower. He added," I don’t think he even knew the person. He just aimed at the car and started shooting at it.”
Even in mourning, the community continues to celebrate Morgan’s legacy. A makeshift memorial now stands in the parking lot where he was found, reflecting the deep affection and admiration he inspired. Colleagues at Brennan’s vow to honor his memory through the dishes he loved to create. “When he made his fried chicken sandwich, people looked forward to it. We’ll do that for him,” Pendleton said.
