They had booked Friday flight tickets to spend Diwali with their loved ones. But fate had other plans! Citing technical problems, Air India cancelled the Milan to Delhi flight on Friday, October 18.

As a result, hundreds of Indian passengers got stranded in Italy.

For their return, alternative flight arrangements have been made, but the opportunity isn't available before Monday, the Diwali day.

An Air India spokesperson said, “The safety of passengers and crew is paramount to us. That is why the flight was cancelled immediately after the mechanical fault was detected.”

Although hotel arrangements have been made for all passengers, they are not near the airport. Alternative flight arrangements have been made for passengers to return, but this will be on Monday or even later.

This means many may not be able to return home for Diwali. One passenger's visa expires on Monday. Only for him, arrangements are being made to return on Sunday on another airline's flight.
