Speculation around OnePlus stirred the tech and business world at the same time on Wednesday after a report by Android Headlines claimed that the company was gradually being “shut down” and that several departments were being wound up. The report cited declining sales, the cancellation of certain devices, and unnamed sources, leading to widespread discussion on social media.

However, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has rejected the speculation, stating that the rumours surrounding the issue are unverified. He has clearly stated that the company's operations are continuing normally and will continue to do so.

OnePlus India rejects shutdown claims

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Robin Liu wrote, "I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so. Never Settle."

Along with this post, he shared a picture that read, 'Recent unverified reports claiming OnePlus is shutting down are false. OnePlus India's business operations continue as normal. We urge all stakeholders to verify information from official sources before sharing unsubstantiated claims.'

In November last year, OnePlus launched its flagship phone OnePlus 15 in India. The following month saw the arrival of the OnePlus 15R and the OnePlus Pad Go 2. However, recently rumours spread in the market that this sub-brand of Oppo had allegedly cancelled plans to develop the OnePlus Open 2 (foldable phone) and compact flagship OnePlus 15s.

Market challenges and additional pressure

Additionally, OnePlus has fallen somewhat behind in the competitive smartphone market. Memory chip shortages have made that situation even more difficult. This information has added fuel to the speculation about OnePlus shutting down. According to IDC data, OnePlus's market share was 3.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2024. In the third quarter of 2025, it declined to 2.4 per cent. This means the company's market share has fallen by approximately 30.5 per cent compared to a year ago.

However, sales of OnePlus's parent company Oppo have remained relatively stable. IDC reports that Oppo's market share was 13.9 per cent in both the third quarter of 2024 and the fourth quarter of 2025.

Meanwhile, amid rumours of shutting down, OnePlus India is under further pressure. The company had launched a lifetime screen replacement program for the 'green line' issue. Regarding this matter, OnePlus has received a tax notice of approximately 93 crore rupees from the GST department. All things considered, despite various speculations in the market, OnePlus India has clearly stated that the company is not shutting down and business will be conducted normally.
