What stocks should be in a portfolio for investment? Brokerage firm Jefferies has prepared a list for this. Several new names have entered that list. The firm has stated that the MSCI India Index has risen 8 per cent in 2025. However, 15 per cent of the stocks in that index have fallen by more than 20 per cent. In this situation, Jefferies has prepared a new model portfolio list.

According to media sources, Jefferies' model portfolio includes Godrej Properties, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, JSW Energy, and AU Small Finance Bank. Along with these, Axis Bank and SAMIL have also been added to the portfolio. On the other hand, the weightage has been reduced for ICICI Bank, NTPC, Tata Steel, CRG and InterGlobe Aviation in the portfolio.

Why has Jefferies brought AU Small Finance Bank stock into the portfolio?

According to media reports, analysts are expecting strong growth in this banking company. Asset quality is expected to improve, and it may transform from a small finance bank to a larger bank. On the other hand, Axis Bank is being given preference over ICICI Bank. This is because Axis Bank's stock valuation has a 20-25 per cent discount. Along with this, signs of growth are visible in this stock.

JSW Energy has replaced NTPC in the newly created portfolio. Jefferies believes that JSW is creating new capacity or production capability. As a result, a significant jump in operating profit may be seen in the next three years. Currently, JSW Energy's valuation remains lower than at the time of its 2010 listing.

Regarding Godrej Properties, Jefferies' view is that the company's stock is currently performing poorly. As a result, the current valuation of this stock allows for long-term investment, keeping long-term metrics in mind.
