The bone-chilling cold wave continues to grip North India, with temperatures steadily declining in the plains and snowfall persisting in hilly regions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned residents to brace for colder days ahead, with strong winds and fog adding to the discomfort.

Delhi shivers amid fog and falling temperatures
The national capital has started recording a significant plunge in temperatures. Early morning fog is reducing visibility in some areas. Apart from the cold, the residents of Delhi are already battling high pollution levels, and, hence, are advised to take all precautions. According to the IMD, the situation is likely to continue in the next few days, with gusty cold winds blowing and picking up further today and tomorrow.
Sharp cold snap hits Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, the districts that will bear the entire brunt of the cold wave include Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Prayagraj. According to the IMD, the intense chill will persist for two more days and then plunge further next week due to the Westerlies. People are advised to keep themselves warm, mainly in the early mornings and nights.
Rain forecast for East and South India
While North India shivers, parts of East and South India are likely to see rainfall. The IMD issued a rain alert for West Bengal and Odisha, predicting overcast skies and light to moderate showers in some districts. Southern states, such as Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, will also receive intermittent rain until November 11, bringing relief from the dry spell.

Cold wave alerts in multiple cities
The sudden dip in temperatures has spurred the IMD to issue Cold Wave Alerts across many cities. It includes Bihar's Purnia, Kishanganj, and Patna, Jharkhand's Ranchi, and a number of districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Prayagraj. Local people are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold and ensure adequate heating inside homes. With cold winds, fog, and low temperatures combined, the next few days are going to be particularly severe over North India, while Eastern and Southern states are gearing up for rainfall, warns IMD.
