Jadavpur University authorities finally bowed to pressure from student protests. After a lengthy meeting of the university's Engineering Faculty Council on Tuesday, it was decided that lateral entry to the second year of engineering will continue through JELET this year as well. Additionally, supplementary examinations are being restored for theory papers in the interest of students, which had been cancelled under the new examination regulations. However, the university has maintained its rigid stance on class attendance rates. The allocated 5 marks for attendance will remain.

Engineering students protested throughout Tuesday night, surrounding university authorities in opposition to the new examination regulations that allocated marks for attendance, eliminated supplementary exams, and decided to stop the JELET entrance. Although the movement was called off on Wednesday morning, tension persisted across the campus. According to university sources, stopping lateral entry through JELET this year was considered due to delays in the entrance examination.

However, Faculty Council Dean Parthapratim Biswas announced that eligible candidates will have two options. First, they can take provisional admission this year and start classes from the next academic year. Second, they can directly join the second semester of the second year from January. They will be able to take the remaining first-semester examinations in March along with supplementary examination candidates.

Furthermore, if any student fails to clear first-year backlogs before advancing to the fourth year, they will face a year-lag.
