The 83rd Golden Globe Awards marked the formal start of the 2026 Hollywood awards season, with film and television honours handed out at a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton in California on Sunday, January 11. The event is traditionally seen as a key indicator ahead of the Academy Awards later in the season.
Two titles emerged as the night’s biggest winners. One Battle After Another led the film categories with four awards, while Netflix’s Adolescence topped the television honours, also winning four trophies.

Major film winners
One Battle After Another, which entered the night with nine nominations, won Best Film – Musical or Comedy. Paul Thomas Anderson was awarded Best Director and Best Screenplay for the film, while Teyana Taylor won Best Supporting Actress, marking her first Golden Globe win.
In the drama category, Hamnet was named Best Film – Drama. The film also earned Jessie Buckley the award for Best Actress in a Drama Film.
The award for Best Actor in a Drama Film went to Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, which also won Best Non-English Language Film.
In animation, KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Film and later added Best Original Song for “Golden.” The film Sinners won the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award and also secured Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson.
Television categories led by Adolescence
Netflix’s Adolescence dominated the limited series categories, winning Best Limited Series. Stephen Graham won Best Actor in a Limited Series, while Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively. Both Cooper and Doherty earned their first Golden Globe awards.
The Pitt won Best Drama Series, with Noah Wyle receiving Best Actor in a Drama Series. In comedy, The Studio was named Best Comedy or Musical Series, with Seth Rogen winning Best Actor in that category.

Jean Smart won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks, while Rhea Seehorn took Best Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus.
New category and hosting
A new category for Best Podcast was introduced this year. Good Hang with Amy Poehler won the inaugural award, giving Poehler her first Golden Globe win.
US comedian Nikki Glaser returned as host for the second consecutive year. Her opening monologue featured pointed humour directed at industry figures and awards season conventions. Speaking later to the BBC, Glaser said hosting the ceremony was the most enjoyable experience of her career, while also acknowledging the pressure of performing in front of a room filled with A-list celebrities.
