Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr, widely regarded as a pioneer of slow cinema, has passed away, leaving behind a lasting legacy of meditative and influential world cinema.

Renowned Hungarian director Béla Tarr has passed away. The director was 70 years old at the time of his death. The European Film Academy announced the director's death. The veteran director had been suffering from various age-related ailments for a long time. His death has cast a shadow of grief over the world cinema community.

He was the director of famous films like 'Sátántangó' and 'Damnation'. The European Film Academy said in its condolence message, "We have lost a talented director. His political voice will be a resource for future generations. He was acclaimed by audiences around the world."

He was a frontline figure in the 'Slow Cinema' movement. In 1977, he made his first feature film, 'Family Nest'. He wanted to walk the opposite path of everything conventional. He believed wholeheartedly in the culture of breaking the mould in art.

Black and white atmosphere, slowness of pace, and sparse dialogue were some of the key characteristics of his films. The film 'Damnation' contains each of these characteristics.

However, Béla Tarr's film 'Sátántangó' brought these characteristics prominently before the world. After making 'The Turin Horse' in 2011, he took a break from directing. However, he did make two short films in 2017 and 2019.
