33-hour Mumbai-Pune Expressway jam: 1 lakh motorists to get Rs 5.16 crore toll refund

More than one lakh motorist who were left stranded in a massive traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway earlier this month are soon going to see their toll money refunded. A senior official from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation said on Sunday that a sum of Rs 5.16 crore will be refunded in total.

His son, Shuvrangshu Roy, confirmed the news to The Indian Express. Roy had served as the 32nd Union Minister of Railways from March 20, 2012, to September 21, 2012, during the UPA-II government, succeeding Dinesh Trivedi amid controversy over railway fare hikes. In recent years, Roy had been battling a series of severe neurological and systemic ailments that gradually pushed him away from active politics.
