Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, the Indian Embassy in Iran has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals to leave the country at the earliest. The warning comes as uncertainty grows over the evolving situation involving Tehran and Washington, raising concerns about regional stability and safety.
Embassy issues urgent advisory
In an official statement released on Monday, the Indian Embassy advised all Indian citizens currently residing in Iran, including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists, to depart using available travel options.

"In continuation of the advisory issued by the Government of India on 5 January 2026, and in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights," the advisory read as reported by ANI.
The embassy also reiterated earlier safety instructions issued in January, asking Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to remain cautious and stay alert to local developments.
"The 14 January 2026 Advisory is hereby reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOS should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran, and monitor local media for any developments," it added.

Safety measures and emergency contacts
Along with advising departure, the embassy urged citizens to keep essential travel and identification documents readily accessible. Passports, immigration papers, and identity cards should be kept prepared in case of emergency travel requirements.
The advisory also shared emergency helpline details for assistance.

Rising regional tensions
The warning follows continued student protests in Iran, which have entered their second day, alongside ongoing diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and Washington over a potential nuclear agreement. The next round of talks is scheduled to take place in Geneva on Thursday, February 26, as confirmed by Oman’s foreign minister Badr Al Busaidi.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning to Iran regarding negotiations.
"We're either going to get a deal, or it's going to be unfortunate for them... 10-15 days would be enough time," Trump had said.
