A winter afternoon means lazy moods, basking in the sun, and a good storybook. Or, a holiday morning, sitting on the balcony with a cup of tea and chatting away. Or even throwing a lively weekend party. But in all this, the most important role is played by your dear balcony. So, this winter season, give it a fresh, new look. But how to bring new charm to an old balcony? Here are some tips:
Use warm colours
You can bring softness to the balcony during winter with cushions, knitted throws, handmade carpets, or rugs made of jute and cotton. Deep, warm shades could be ochre, burgundy, olive green, or mustard. You can use multi-colored items for highlighting one particular colour theme. Adding seat pads to chairs or benches will make sitting more comfortable.

Bring in plants
Some flowers can add colour to your balcony even during winter. You may choose petunias, marigolds, carnations, dianthus, cacti, or succulents for this purpose. You can place big and small pots together for a stylish arrangement. Designed pots or ceramic ones give more charm to this creation. You can also have hanging pots, railing planters, or shelves to save space and give a more aesthetic look to your balcony.
Change the ambience with lighting
Winter evenings tend to come early, so lighting is very important. Fairy lights, warm, yellow-toned lanterns, or LED candles can work wonders in creating a cosy effect. There are special decorative lights for balconies available in most stores and online. Remember, the right lighting completely alters the mood.
Seating arrangements
You can make it comfortable by using folding chairs, wooden benches, or cushioned window seats, depending on the space of your balcony. A small side or centre table can display books, trays, or plants. If the space is very limited, you can even create floor seating with mats and cushions. It also looks beautiful.

Spruce it up with decorative touches
Colourful lanterns, small wind chimes, terracotta showpieces, clay pots, or hand-painted pots can add character. You can also float artificial lotus flowers in clay pots with scented candles. If you want more, place a mini bookshelf or artwork in one corner of the balcony for an extra personal touch.
Keep it clean
Because dust tends to accumulate much more in winter, regular cleaning becomes important. Remove the dried leaves of plants; let carpets and throws catch sunlight once in a while. Loosen the soil in pots and water sparingly so as not to create mud. A clean balcony not only looks better but feels inviting, too.
