Virat Kohli was left stunned as Glenn Phillips delivered a moment of sheer brilliance on the field during India’s chase against New Zealand, leaving not just the crowd but also the Indian dressing room in disbelief.

Phillips’ flying dive leaves everyone amazed

The moment unfolded in the eighth over of India’s chase of 301 in the first ODI at the Baroda Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Shubman Gill slashed a powerful cut shot through backward point, seemingly destined for the boundary. Glenn Phillips, however, had other ideas. The New Zealand fielder launched himself full stretch like Spider-Man, diving to his left with one hand outstretched in a stunning attempt to grab the ball out of thin air.

Phillips could not complete what would have been a sensational one-handed catch, but the reactions said it all.

Gill broke into a wide smile at the non-striker’s end, Rohit Sharma smiled in disbelief, and Virat Kohli, watching from the dressing room, was seen with his hands on his head, clearly shocked by the audacity of the attempt. It was one of those rare moments where even a missed catch felt extraordinary.

Kohli creates history as India chase 301

The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand began on Sunday, with New Zealand posting a competitive 300/8 despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Daryl Mitchell went back with 84, while Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls chipped in with 56 and 62, respectively.

For India, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana picked up two wickets each.

India’s chase started positively, with Rohit Sharma playing a vintage knock, hitting two sixes and three fours before getting out for 26 off 29 balls. From there, Kohli and Gill steadied the innings, both going on to score half-centuries.

The innings also turned historic for Kohli. During his session, he became only the third batter in international cricket history to cross 28,000 runs, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. Kohli then went one step further, surpassing Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket, just behind only Tendulkar.

It was a night of milestones, moments, and magic, and Glenn Phillips’ flying effort was just right at the heart of it.
