Cricketing legend and former India captain Kapil Dev has praised Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round abilities, saying the current India star’s enthusiasm for fielding reminds him of his own playing days.

“Ravindra Jadeja enjoys fielding the most, which I used to do too,” Kapil said, highlighting the importance of athleticism and commitment in modern cricket, during his interaction with Mithali Raj and Jatin Sapru at the ICC Centenary Celebrations in Kolkata.

Speaking on the evolution of the game and its various formats, Kapil made it clear that he remains open-minded about cricket’s changing landscape. “I love everything in cricket, T20, T10,” he said, indicating his acceptance of shorter formats alongside the traditional game.

Kapil also dismissed the notion that legends from earlier eras would struggle in today’s fast-paced formats. Stressing adaptability as cricket’s greatest constant, he said, “I also stress on the fact that Sunil Gavaskar would have excelled had the T20 format existed today.”

Reflecting on batting fundamentals, the former all-rounder underscored the continued relevance of technique, even in an era driven by aggression. “Defense is difficult, it gives better room to attack,” Kapil said, suggesting that strong basics remain the foundation of successful stroke play across formats.

Reiterating his comfort with the modern game’s rapid evolution, Kapil added in Hindi, “Mere liye T20 ho ya T10, mujhe koi problem nahi hai,” underlining that format length does not dilute cricket’s essence for him.

Kapil Dev’s remarks offer a balanced perspective on contemporary cricket, blending respect for tradition with an embrace of innovation, while reinforcing his belief that skill, adaptability and attitude transcend formats and generations.
