CMF has officially begun rolling out Nothing OS 4.0 to its smartphones. This is a major software update for CMF Phone 1 and CMF Phone 2 Pro. The update is being released in phases. CMF Phone 1 users are getting it first, while CMF Phone 2 Pro users will receive it in early January.
Nothing OS 4.0 is built on Android 16. The focus of this update is refinement and ease of use. Instead of big changes, the company has worked on making the system feel calmer, cleaner, and more intuitive for daily use.

Cleaner design
The interface has been refreshed with new system icons, updated status indicators, and a simpler Quick Settings layout. These changes make the phone easier to read and use.
The Extra Dark Mode has also been improved. Blacks are deeper, contrast is better, and power use is reduced. It also improves readability across notifications, Quick Settings, the app drawer, and first-party apps like Essential Space.
Customisation has been expanded with new widget sizes such as 1×1 and 2×1. Apps like Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time now support these sizes, allowing users to create compact and useful home screens.
Android 16 upgrade
Multitasking has been improved with a better pop-up view. Users can now run two floating apps and switch between them more smoothly using simple swipe gestures. A new hidden apps feature lets users keep selected apps out of the app drawer while still accessing them quickly when needed.

Animations across the system are now smoother. App opening and closing feel more connected with subtle background movement. Haptic feedback has also been improved, with gentle vibrations at minimum and maximum volume levels.
Along with these changes, Nothing OS 4.0 upgrades CMF devices from Android 15 to Android 16. This brings newer security updates, better performance, and platform-level improvements.
The update will arrive automatically via OTA. CMF Phone 1 users will see it first, followed by CMF Phone 2 Pro users in early January.
