A migrant worker, Siraj, who hails from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, is battling for his life after being assaulted with sickles by four minor boys. The incident began as the train was moving where the minors allegedly surrounded Siraj and started threatening him with sickles and swords.
All the four accused are aged 17 and have been detained by the police. According to NDTV, while three accused were sent to juvenile home in Chengalpattu, the fourth was granted bail with the court citing âhis studiesâ. However, detailed investigation into the case continues as the police are trying to understand how and why the attack took place.
Details of the attack
The suburban train was on its way to Thiruthani from Chennai when the harassment began. One of the accused started filming the assault and even posted it on Instagram with a Tamil song playing in the background. In yet another video, the attack takes place near a house where the accused can be seen hitting Siraj with machetes and one of the accused can be seen posing with a victory sign.

At the beginning of the video, blood can be seen flowing from Sirajâs and as the video continues, it begins to flow from all over the face. Even though he tried to stop the bleeding with his hands, it didnât seem to stop.
Even as the assault continued and the attackers made reels, reportedly none came to help Siraj. However, later, he was admitted to the hospital, where he continues to be in critical condition in the ICU.
Reactions
The video created a sensation across the Internet where people called the incident âabsolutely terrifyingâ and demanded strictest punishment for the accused. People have also demanded amends in the Juvenile Justice Act.

Karti P Chidambaram, Member of Parliament for Sivaganga, in a post on X said that time has come for Tamil Nadu Police to âprove its mettleâ. He ordered âimmediate checking of all vehicles plying the roads and identity checksâ. âAll history sheeters must be required to report to the nearest police station thrice a week. Public must be made to feel safe,â he stated.
