The 911 call made by Dr. Neha Gupta, a pediatrician from Oklahoma who is accused of killing her four-year-old daughter and making it look like she drowned during a family vacation to Florida, has been made public.
Gupta, 37, was arrested in July 2025, just days after her daughter, Aria Talathi, was discovered unresponsive at the bottom of a swimming pool at a vacation rental property in El Portal, Florida.
The Miami-Dade Sheriffâs Office (MDSO) says that the 911 call was made in the early hours of June 27, 2025. Gupta can be heard telling the dispatcher that her daughter was âat the bottom of the poolâ and that she had tried to save her.
"I tried to get her out," Gupta is heard telling the dispatcher. "We were sleeping and I heard some noise. She was in the pool, I tried to save her, but I donât know how to swim. She went down in the pool."

The dispatcher told Gupta to try to rescue the child from the water using a pool cleaning pole while emergency medical services were on their way.
When the first responders arrived, Gupta led them to the backyard pool, where they found Aria unresponsive. The child was given CPR and taken to a hospital but was later declared dead.
Autopsy results defy drowning theory
As per a police affidavit quoted in an ABC6 report, the autopsy showed that the lungs and stomach of the child were free from water, thus making it impossible for the child to have drowned.
There were also signs of injuries such as cuts in the mouth and redness on the cheeks, which were indicative of asphyxiation due to smothering, the affidavit said.
Authorities concluded that the child had died before being placed in the pool.
Gupta had told investigators that she and her daughter went to sleep around 12:30 a.m., and that she later woke to find the child missing from the bed. She claimed the child had wandered outside and fallen into the pool.
The findings from the medical examinerâs report directly contradicted that account.

Talathi told authorities he was unaware that his daughter had been taken out of Oklahoma. The couple was reportedly involved in an ongoing custody dispute at the time.
On July 2, 2025, detectives from the Miami-Dade Sheriffâs Office Homicide Bureau arrested Gupta in connection with the childâs death.
She has been charged with second-degree murder in Miami-Dade County. The case remains under investigation.
