Day 2 highlights:

Day-2 of Mamata Banerjee’s dharna was marked by strong accusations against the Centre, warnings about threats to democracy, and a demand for restoration of voters’ rights, turning the protest into a major political confrontation ahead of elections.

Continuation of agitation

Banerjee announced that she will spend a second night at the protest site in central Kolkata and vowed to continue the agitation until the alleged irregularities in the voter rolls are addressed. The dharna has become a major political flashpoint ahead of upcoming elections in the state. She called on more women to join hands in the protest proceedings tomorrow, on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Protest highlighting affected voters

Several people whose names were allegedly removed or marked incorrectly in the voter list were brought to the protest stage to demonstrate the problem. Some said they had been declared "dead" despite being alive and had submitted documents to prove their identity.

Criticism over the Governor issue

Banerjee also criticised the change in the state's Governor and alleged political pressure behind the move. Without naming the appointee directly, she called the new Governor "BJP’s parrot", reflecting the escalating confrontation between the state government and the Centre.

Allegation of voter suppression

Banerjee claimed that the deletion of large numbers of voters from the electoral rolls was a deliberate attempt to “divide Bengal” and deprive citizens of their voting rights. She argued that genuine voters were being wrongly removed or marked as “dead,” which she described as a serious threat to democracy

No guarantee BJP will rule for 35 years: CM

Speaking during the dharna outside Esplanade Metro Station, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo said, "No one can guarantee that the BJP government will stay in power for 35 years."

'Settled family futures, then entered politics with BJP'

After securing the careers and futures of their family members, some people have now entered politics holding hands with the BJP, CM Mamata Banerjee claimed without naming anyone.

'I will personally go to all BJP-ruled states and walk in protest marches'

"If this goes on, I will personally go to all BJP-ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh, and walk in protest marches," said the Chief Minister.
