West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at the Supreme Court on Wednesday for a hearing on her plea against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state.
She has consistently opposed the SIR drive in the state and wants the upcoming Assembly elections to follow the 2025 voters list.
Her expected appearance in the Supreme Court today marks a further escalation of her ongoing clash with the Election Commission of India (ECI).

'Standing up for democracy'
Jay Prakash Majumdar, state vice-president and spokesperson, All India Trinamool Congress, called the Chief Minister's efforts a fight for democratic rights.
"Mamata Banerjee is fighting for the democratic rights of people of West Bengal and on a bigger stage, for entire people of India's democratic rights," he told News Ei Samay.
Majumdar said that no sensible politician or party can oppose Banerjee's position and that the insulting attacks reveal their helplessness and poor political strategies.
"The entire matter exposes the serious lack of depth of Opposition politicians in West Bengal. It also exposes their helplessness in political issues. No sensible politician or political party can oppose that stand," he stated.
"But in such a situation, they have chosen a derogatory path of personal and silly attacks on Mamata Banerjee which exposes their serious helplessness. This is a sign of poor politics on behalf of so-called opposition parties in West Bengal," Majumdar asserted.
