After nearly 15 years, the return ticket system has returned to Kolkata Metro. This means passengers can buy round-trip tickets at once and travel on the metro. Just like in local trains.
Kolkata Metro Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, SS Kannan, said, "We are introducing the return ticket system on a trial basis. Passengers can buy tickets, scan them at the entry gate and travel. Similarly, while returning, they won't need to go to the booking counter; they can directly scan at the entry gate and travel. Just keep the ticket with you for the return journey."

This return ticket system has already been launched. This service is available on all five routes. From August 1, 2011, the ticket system was discontinued, and the token system was introduced in Kolkata Metro Railway. The return ticket system was stopped from that day.
As a result, if any passenger did not have a card, they had to stand in line at the booking counter and buy tickets both while going and returning. Passengers were also getting annoyed with this single-ticket system.

There were also demands to introduce a system of buying tickets for round-trip tickets at once instead of standing in line twice.
Besides, the minimum fare in Kolkata Metro is still 5 rupees. Apart from this, passengers face problems with changes in fares of 15, 25, and 35 rupees. The staff at the counter also has to face hassles. Keeping all aspects in mind, the return ticket system has returned to the metro.
