The West Bengal government has announced Rs 10 lakh in financial assistance for the family of each person who died in the Taratala tragedy. Those injured in the incident will receive Rs 1 lakh each.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the Assembly on Thursday. He said, "No amount of money can compensate for the loss of a life. Even so, a responsible government remains committed to fulfilling its duty."

PMO announces ex gratia
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has announced financial assistance for those affected by the deadly warehouse shed collapse. In a post on its official X handle on Thursday, the Prime Minister's Office said, "The mishap in Kolkata yesterday is saddening. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each will be given from PMNRF to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the mishap. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000. The state government is working round the clock to ensure that those affected receive all possible assistance: PM.”

Death toll rises to nine as rescue operation continues
The incident took place on Wednesday after the iron roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Taratala. The death toll has now reached nine.
Rescue teams are continuing their search at the site using an advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to detect anyone who may still be trapped beneath the debris.

Meanwhile, police have arrested five people in connection with the incident, including the warehouse owner.
Twenty injured, several remain critical
A total of 20 people sustained injuries in the collapse. Health Minister Shardwata Mukhopadhyay said one of the injured is in an extremely critical condition, while four others remain in critical condition.
Rescue efforts are still underway as authorities continue operations at the collapse site.
