An Air India aircraft and an IndiGo plane briefly found themselves facing each other on the taxiway at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening after the Air India flight took an incorrect turn while taxiing after landing. The incident took place at around 8 pm.

The Mumbai to Ahmedabad Air India flight had been instructed to taxi to Stand 34L through taxiways C and G, a source told Hindustan Times. However, the aircraft deviated from the assigned route and entered the path of an Ahmedabad to Mumbai IndiGo flight.

Despite the unexpected situation, the two aircraft remained at a safe distance from each other on the taxiway. The IndiGo aircraft was subsequently instructed to give way to the Air India plane.

Air India orders investigation

Confirming the incident, Air India said the aircraft had inadvertently taken a wrong turn after landing and stressed that passenger and crew safety was never at risk.

"We are aware of an incident where our flight AI2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on 24 June after landing inadvertently took a wrong turn during taxiing. There was no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew," the airline said.

The airline further stated that the aircraft was later towed back to the parking bay and that an investigation has been initiated into the incident.

IndiGo flight delayed briefly

IndiGo also acknowledged the incident, saying its Ahmedabad to Mumbai service experienced a short delay during taxiing because another airline's aircraft entered its path.
