A Trinamool leader in West Burdwan district has been accused of forcibly stopping road work. The Asansol Durgapur Development Authority's (ADDA) drainage construction work has come to a halt. However, the accused leader Munmun Sarkar refuses to accept this. Her claim is that the drain is being constructed in such a way that water is accumulating in the area. She says she has asked for this to be corrected, and the work has been stopped because she wanted to see the work schedule.

A part of C Block in Srinagarpalli in Ward No. 20 of Durgapur gets submerged every year during the monsoon. To avoid this problem, ADDA is constructing a drainage canal of about 400 meters length and a road above it at a cost of 99 lakh rupees. This work has been going on for the past few days.

Allegations and counterclaims

The contractor company claims there were defects in the work. ADDA's chairman and engineers came and corrected it. Work is being done in the presence of an engineer. Even after this, Munmun Sarkar is coming and obstructing the work. Even then, Munmun Sarkar is saying the work is not being done according to schedule, claims the organization.

However, Munmun Sarkar says, "This is completely wrong. I have not stopped the work. Local people called me and informed that water is accumulating on the road due to the drain. Listening to people's concerns, I came on Friday and saw water had accumulated. I wanted to know how the water would drain out. I want to see the work schedule. When they were not showing it, I even called the chairman. Today again in the morning I came to see the work schedule. But they did not show it."

On this day, ADDA engineer Utpal Mukhopadhyay went to the spot after receiving news. He said, "We were breaking the drain as it was a bit high. But they didn't let us break it either, they stopped the work. People are sitting there. We are overseeing everything. If everyone becomes an engineer, then it will be troublesome."

ADDA chairman Kobi Dutta said, "The contractor company has been told to start work from Sunday. To file a complaint at the police station against whoever obstructs. After that I will see how government work is stopped."
