The incident occurred in East Srirampur in Mahishadal, East Midnapore district. On Saturday morning, the priest went to perform worship at the temple and found the door broken. Everything inside the temple was scattered around. Locals claim that the Raghunath Jiu temple is 100 years old.

Local residents report that residents of Mahapatra Para had taken Shalagrama Shila from Mahishadal Rajbari and built that temple of Raghunath Jiu. Daily worship takes place at the temple every day. On Saturday morning, the priest went to perform worship and found the temple door open. The priest claims that silver and brass bells, swing, and other items were stolen from the temple. As news of the theft spread, local residents gathered in crowds.
Valuables missing, Shalagrama Shila left untouched
Local resident Manoranjan Mahapatra said, 'In the morning, temple priest Lakshman Utthaseni came to perform daily worship and found the temple door in a broken state. We went and saw that the deity's ornaments and utensils were stolen from the temple. Items worth 15 to 20 thousand rupees were stolen.' However, he claims that the Shalagrama Shila is very valuable.

The thief could not escape with it. Local residents said they have verbally informed the police about the matter. Police from Mahishadal station are investigating the theft incident. No one was arrested in the incident until Saturday afternoon.
