Bangladesh Police announce 50 Lakh BDT reward in hunt for Sharif Osman Hadi’s killers

Bangladesh police have announced a 50 lakh BDT reward for information leading to the arrest of those who killed 'Inqilab Mancha' spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, assuring informants of full confidentiality.

Bangladesh police are desperately searching for the killers of 'Inqilab Mancha' spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, for which they have announced that a financial reward will be given to anyone who can provide information about those who shot Hadi. Bangladesh police have declared a 50 lakh BDT reward to be given to anyone who will eb able to provide information about the killers. It has also been announced that the informant's name will be kept confidential.

The attack on Sharif Osman Hadi

Last Friday, Bangladeshi student leader Osman Hadi was shot in the head on Bijoy Nagar Box-Culvert Road in Dhaka. Hadi was travelling in a rickshaw when he was attacked by two motorcycle riders who shot at him. Police claim that suspects have been identified after examining CCTV footage from the area. Dhaka Metropolitan Police have also released photographs of the two assailants. Police have also provided two mobile numbers to provide information regarding the killers.

After being shot, Hadi was brought to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Later, he was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment. He died there on Thursday night. In the elections scheduled for Bangladesh in February next year, Hadi was reportedly planning to contest from the Dhaka-8 constituency.

Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus had expressed deep grief over Hadi's death. According to Bangladesh media sources, Yunus has also claimed that the shooting is an attempt to sabotage the upcoming elections. He claims that the attack on Hadi was planned, and has also stated that those who killed the student leader will not be spared.

Bangladesh plunges into anarchy, again

Meanwhile, as soon as news of Hadi's death went public, various areas of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, became turbulent from Thursday night. The offices of two of Bangladesh's major newspapers, 'Prothom Alo' and 'The Daily Star', were attacked and vandalised before being set on fire. These two newspapers have not been able to get published on Friday. Sources report that an Awami League office in Rajshahi was also set on fire. The houses of former Chittagong mayor and Awami League leader A.B.M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Hasina-era Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury were also looted and set on fire. Protests were also staged near India's Assistant High Commission in Chittagong. The protesters demanded that the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina be returned to Bangladesh.
