According to a report by NDTV, authorities have fixed a daily limit on the number of pilgrims. Because of this, people who want to join the yatra should apply as early as possible.

The Amarnath Yatra is one of India’s most important spiritual journeys. Every year, thousands of devotees visit the holy cave shrine. For 2026, officials have updated the rules for registration, health checks, biometric verification, and route selection.

How to register?

Registration is available through the official Shri Amarnathji Yatra website and mobile app. Applicants need to use their valid mobile number and email address for OTP verification. Along with this**, they must upload** a passport-sized photograph and a scanned Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) dated no earlier than April 8, 2026.

Those who prefer in-person registration may visit one of more than 500 designated bank branches across India, where Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC will be conducted; manual registration is also available in case of technical difficulties. Help desks are available at bank branches.

Two routes, one destination

Pilgrims may choose between two trekking routes. The traditional Pahalgam route covers approximately 46 km one way. It follows a gradual ascent and is considered suitable for first-time pilgrims.

The Baltal route, at around 14 km one way, is shorter but significantly steeper. Helicopter services operate on both routes up to Panchtarni.

Tents, places to stay, medical help, food, and basic supplies are available on both routes. However, the roads are difficult and weather conditions can change suddenly. So, people should be physically fit and properly prepared before starting the journey.
