At least six people have died, and several others are missing after a boat capsised in the Yamuna River near Vrindavan on Thursday, triggering an intensive search and rescue operation.
The incident occurred near Shringar Ghat under the jurisdiction of the local police station. Officials said around 25 people, including pilgrims and locals, were on board the steamer when it suddenly lost balance and overturned in the river.

According to a report by India TV, District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh confirmed the fatalities, saying, âSix dead, several missing after tourist boat capsizes in Yamuna in Mathura.â
Rescue teams race against time
Police, local administration and teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot soon after the incident. Divers have been deployed in the river, and search operations are continuing without interruption.

Officials said the operation will continue until all missing persons are accounted for.
The report describes scenes of chaos as the boat overturned within seconds. âIt happened so suddenly that people had no time to react,â a local resident said. Several passengers were seen struggling in the water while bystanders rushed to pull them to safety.

Panic, grief grip the area
Panic has spread in the temple town following the accident, as worried relatives await news about their missing loved ones near the banks of the river.
Meanwhile, the cause of the accident has not been ascertained yet. It is believed that the boat might have lost its balance while sailing midway through the river.
