Chetan Chaudhary allegedly spent nearly 10 hours trying to erase his digital footprint on the day Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal was killed at Lohagad Fort.

Investigators believe Chaudhary and Siya Goyal jointly planned the attack, with the alleged motive tied to stopping Agarwal’s arranged marriage. The FIR filed by Agarwal’s father, Vishal Devichand Agarwal, accused both of pushing his son off a cliff, wile police separately took the accused to the fort on June 28 to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Not quite the invisible gentleman

The reconstructed timeline shared by NDTV’s reporting based on sources familiar with the probe begins at 7 am, when Chaudhary allegedly switched off mobile data to avoid leaving a GPS trail.

By 8 am, he had reportedly left his personal phone at his shop and instructed workers to answer incoming calls, creating the appearance that he had remained there.

He then borrowed an employee’s phone for necessary communication while traveling, a move investigators now view as part of a deliberate attempt to build a false alibi.

A rendezvous with grim consequences

The fort visit itself is central to the probe. At around 2 pm, Chaudhary allegedly followed the couple up the trail while wearing a winter hoodie despite the summer heat, apparently to make identification harder on surveillance footage.

Around 2:30 pm, Siya Goyal is said to have sat down near a secluded cliff at the Vinchu Kata ridge as a signal, after which Chaudhary allegedly stepped out and pushed Agarwal off the cliff.

The fall was from around 400 feet. Police have since reported that both accused were taken to Lohagad Fort for a crime-scene recreation to verify their movements and the sequence of events.

The mask slips, bit by bit

According to the same timeline, Chaudhary allegedly restored his internet connection at 5:40 pm, after remaining offline for about 10 hours and 40 minutes.

Investigators, however, are said to have detected gaps in the alibi through CCTV footage, the winter clothing, and phone-call confirmations that someone else had been answering at his number.

On June 18, Agarwal left home in the morning, picked up Siya Goyal from Kiwale bridge on the Pune-Mumbai highway, and later died after Goyal allegedly called his mother at 10:45 am to say he had accidentally fallen into a gorge at Lohagad Fort.

The case remains under investigation as police continue to piece together the planning, travel, and digital evidence around the killing.
