Modi's response to the honour
In a post on X, Modi said he “humbly accepts[s] this title” and dedicated it to countries “struggling against the challenges of climate change” and working to protect the environment for future generations.
He also thanked the people and government of Seychelles and President Patrick Herminie for conferring the title. The prime minister said climate change required collective action and linked India’s domestic and global sustainability efforts to that broader mission.
A matter of immense pride for all Indians, as PM @NarendraModi ji has been conferred with the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' title by Seychelles.

Bilateral ties take centre stage
The award came on a day when Modi held wide-ranging talks with President Herminie at the State House, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral ties and discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The visit was at the invitation of Herminie. PM Modi is scheduled to attend Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the guest of honor, address the National Assembly, and meet members of the Indian diaspora.
Another honour joins the shelf
Modi has previously received several international honors linked to sustainability and development.
He was awarded the FAO’s Agricola Medal in May for efforts tied to food security, modernizing agriculture, and sustainable farming, while in 2018 he received the Seoul Peace Prize and the United Nations’ Champions of the Earth Award.
The latest recognition adds another layer to India’s outreach in the Indian Ocean region, where Seychelles is viewed in New Delhi as an important maritime partner.
