A 37-year-old software professional died after allegedly jumping from the sixth floor of an apartment building in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area while carrying her six-month-old daughter in her arms.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, with police confirming that the infant survived the fall and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. According to officials, the child suffered only minor injuries and is reported to be stable.

The deceased has been identified as Isha Sahu, a native of Madhya Pradesh who was working in the software sector in Hyderabad.

Police said she lived in the apartment complex with her husband, who is also employed in the technology industry, and their two daughters. Investigators said the incident was reported at around 3.45 pm. Family members were reportedly present inside the apartment when it happened.

A narrow escape against the odds

The infant escaped serious injury after landing on a protective fence structure along the apartment boundary before reaching the ground.

Residents rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where doctors later said she was out of danger. A police source said, “The infant survived due to a fortunate sequence of events after falling onto a fence structure. The child is receiving medical care and is stable.”

Mental health angle and investigation

Officials said preliminary inquiries suggest that Sahu had been dealing with severe insomnia, anxiety, and symptoms associated with postpartum depression in the months following the birth of her younger daughter.

Police stressed that the exact circumstances leading to the incident are still being examined. “We have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Officials leave no stone unturned

Police have shifted the body for post-mortem examination and are collecting statements from family members while reviewing medical records as part of the investigation.
