London sets Guinness World Record with 440-metre tiramisu—here's how

The tiramisu extended across the hall in a near-continuous line, surpassing the previous record of 273.5 metre set in Milan in 2019.

London has set a new benchmark in culinary records, with a massive tiramisu stretching 440.6 metre earning official recognition from Guinness World Records.

A record-breaking dessert

The feat was achieved by a team of more than 100 Italian chefs who assembled the dessert inside Chelsea Old Town Hall. The tiramisu extended across the hall in a near-continuous line, surpassing the previous record of 273.5 metre set in Milan in 2019.

Officials monitored the process closely to ensure every section met strict guidelines. Each part had to maintain consistent size, structure and quality, with the entire dessert measured and inspected before the record was confirmed.

Built with precision and scale

The preparation took place over two days, with chefs working in coordinated teams to maintain speed and accuracy. The dessert followed the traditional recipe, using coffee-soaked biscuits layered with mascarpone cream.

Tens of thousands of biscuits were aligned carefully, while thousands of eggs were used to achieve the expected texture. Maintaining uniformity across such a long structure proved to be one of the biggest challenges, as even small variations could affect the outcome.

A chef's comeback

Leading the effort was Mirko Ricci, who had previously held the record before losing it in 2019. The London attempt marked his return to reclaim the title.

For Ricci and the team, the event was also a showcase of Italian culinary tradition on a global stage. Despite the scale, attention remained on the basics: ingredient quality, balance of flavours and careful layering.

More than just a dessert

The tiramisu carried symbolic value beyond the record itself. It was presented as a gesture of celebration and included a tribute to the British royal family, highlighting cultural exchange.

The dessert, whose name translates to "cheer me up", has long been associated with comfort. Its transformation into a large-scale installation reflects how food is increasingly becoming a form of public spectacle.
