Upcoming films bring back double roles, stars promise more drama and twists

Double roles have always been popular in Indian cinema because they add more drama, twists, and excitement. From twin stories to modern dual identities, audiences enjoy seeing actors in two different roles.

Toxic

In the teaser of the film Toxic, Yash is seen in two different looks, playing a father and his lookalike son. One character, Raya, looks older and serious with a beard, while the younger one is called Ticket. The teaser caught attention with the lines “Daddy’s home” and “I’m home, Daddy.” The film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, and Huma Qureshi, and will release on June 4.

Shakti Shalini

Aneet Padda will lead Shakti Shalini, part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. She is expected to play two roles—Shakti, a strong protector, and Shalini, a revengeful spirit. The story will show a battle and a contrast between good and evil, with Vishal Jethwa as co-star.

Ramayana

According to the Hindustan Times, Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed his dual role in Ramayana, where he will play Lord Rama and Parashurama, both avatars of Lord Vishnu. The film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. It will release in two parts, on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027.

Animal Park

In Animal Park, Ranbir Kapoor will return as Ranvijay and also play Aziz Haque, setting up a face-off between the two characters. The sequel promises intense action and drama, with Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri also starring. The film is expected to begin production in 2027.

Kalki 2

Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2 will show Prabhas in dual roles as Bhairava and Karna. The sequel continues the epic story and also stars Amitabh Bachchan. It is expected to release in late 2026 or 2027.
