India’s anti-doping system has once again come into focus after two of the country’s young cricket stars, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma, reportedly received notices from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The issue is not related to a failed drug test, but rather alleged “whereabouts failures” linked to mandatory out-of-competition testing procedures. With both players being key figures in Indian cricket, the development has quickly generated major discussion across the sporting community.
NADA issues notices to Jaiswal and Shafali
According to reports, NADA sent notices to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma after they allegedly missed scheduled dope-testing requirements under the Registered Testing Pool (RTP). Athletes placed in the RTP are required to regularly update their location details and remain available during a designated one-hour slot each day for surprise testing.

The notices reportedly concern failures related to the whereabouts system rather than the detection of any banned substance. Under anti-doping regulations, athletes must ensure their availability for testing at all times when included in the RTP program.
What is a whereabouts failure?
A whereabouts failure occurs when an athlete either fails to provide accurate location details or is unavailable during a scheduled testing period. International anti-doping rules treat repeated violations seriously. Three whereabouts failures within 12 months can potentially lead to disciplinary action and may even be considered an anti-doping rule violation.
At present, there is no suspension against either cricketer, and no positive dope test has been reported. NADA has reportedly sought explanations from both players before deciding on any further course of action.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has rapidly become a crucial part of India’s batting lineup and remains a major figure in IPL 2026 with the Rajasthan Royals.
