The ISL title race has taken a dramatic turn after East Bengal climbed to the top of the points table with a win over Mumbai City FC on Tuesday. The Red-and-Gold brigade now has 21 points from 10 matches, while Mohun Bagan Super Giant sit third with 20 points, although they have played one match less. With a crucial fixture against FC Goa coming up on May 9, Mohun Bagan has a chance to return to the top of the table.
The growing competition has naturally increased excitement around the upcoming Kolkata derby, which could prove decisive in the race for the ISL shield. However, Mohun Bagan head coach Sergio Lobera refused to get carried away by title calculations. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Lobera said his only focus is on securing three points against Goa rather than thinking too far ahead.

According to Lobera, planning around possible point scenarios at this stage could distract the team from immediate objectives. He also made it clear that the derby is not currently on his mind, as he prefers taking the season one match at a time.
Injury boost lifts Mohun Bagan before Goa clash
Mohun Bagan, meanwhile, received a major boost ahead of the final phase of the campaign. Lobera confirmed that key players Lalengmawia Ralte, popularly known as Apuia, and Alberto Rodriguez have recovered from injuries and are available for selection. Their return has significantly strengthened the squad before the difficult away trip to Goa. Despite concerns surrounding the heat and humidity in Goa, Lobera dismissed the weather as an excuse. He insisted that professional footballers must adapt to such conditions and remain focused on performance.

He also praised captain Subhasish Bose, calling him the toughest defender in the ISL. Overall, the Mohun Bagan camp appears confident and determined ahead of a crucial stage in the season.
