As Mother’s Day approaches, a deeply emotional message addressed to the alleged kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie has appeared outside her home near Tucson.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since February 1. Authorities believe she was abducted from her Catalina Foothills residence the night before. More than three months later, investigators from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI have not publicly identified any suspects in the case.

Her children, including TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie, along with siblings Annie and Camron, continue to hope for her safe return.

Message appeals to kidnapper’s conscience

The handwritten sign was reportedly placed outside Guthrie’s home ahead of Mother’s Day in an attempt to appeal to the emotions of whoever may be responsible for her disappearance.

Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz, who has been following the case from the beginning, shared a photo and video of the message.

“Someone placed this Mother’s Day message outside Nancy Guthrie’s home, addressed to her abductor,” he wrote.

The sign read, “Your mom would be ashamed if she knew what you did. So before you take her flowers on Mother’s Day, TAKE NANCY HOME, or tell the family where she is...”

The message appeared to urge the suspected abductor to think about their own relationship with their mother and reflect on Guthrie’s role as a mother and grandmother.

Friend says she placed the sign

A woman identified as Lauren Serpa later claimed responsibility for placing the sign outside Guthrie’s home.

“I put a new letter to the perp out in front of Nancy Guthries this morning. I will continue to keep her name out there until she is found,” she wrote, per a Hindustan Times report.

She had earlier posted, “I have one more sign for the perp that Im doing to put out at Nancy's through the weekend.”

Serpa previously explained her connection to Guthrie, saying the missing woman had supported her emotionally after her fiancé died in 2015.

“Nancy needs to be found for the family,” she had said earlier while describing why she continued maintaining the memorial outside the home.
