Amazon to invest $12.7 billion expanding training and infrastructure across India

The US-based tech giant has announced its plans for investment in the country by 2030.

Amazon announced its intention to collaborate with the government to build AI infrastructure in India. Amazon stated that it will focus on creating local cloud and AI infrastructure as well as providing AI-related training. Amazon India has plans to extend this training opportunity to the school level as well.

In a recent statement, the US tech giant announced that it will invest $12.7 billion by 2030 to create local cloud and AI infrastructure. The company has set a target to provide AI-related training and career counselling to at least 4 million students in Indian government schools. Amazon is also focusing on how small businesses can benefit through AI infrastructure.

Amazon India Country Manager, Samir Kumar said that AI can break all discrimination in India. AI will have the advantage of overcoming any barriers, including language and literacy. How will it benefit the country? He explained that any small business owner in a tier-three city in India will be able to instantly complete online product listings using AI. Any school student will benefit in their career by taking AI training. He highlighted that Amazon will work towards bringing such benefits.

Amazon had already announced the massive investments in Telangana and Maharashtra to create local cloud and AI infrastructure in India long ago, and the work on that has already begun. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is now commercially used by many organisations in India. Multiple skill upgrade courses have been launched through AWS to create an AI-trained workforce in India.

Amazon India is also working on providing AI training in schools. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and CEO of IndiaAI Mission Abhishek Singh said that Amazon has spoken about delivering AI training to 4 million students in government schools. There is also talk of investment. Which aligns with the concept of Viksit Bharat.

AI tools for small businesses

The scope of online business is gradually expanding. AI can be helpful for small businesses to easily reach more customers. AI tools can help these businesses compete with large companies, find target customers, and increase special product categories for them. Necessary AI infrastructure is already in place for this assistance. Amazon India has stated its work to further enhance these facilities.
